TESTING OF CARS
Many on Roads Found to Be Unfit LAST DAY MARCH 31 • CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Motorists are xequired by the legis* lation passed during the last session of Parliament to have their vehicles tested and passed as fit for the road before March 31, the Mimster of Transport (Hon. E. Semple) said this evening. He •is determined that every car be tested before being allowed to continue on the road. He had thought the selection of M*rch 31 as the last day would glve sufficient time for testing but he dicl not now intend to adhere figidty to that date. The Transport Department was extremely busy with tests and in'reasonable cases an extension of time would be allowed. "It ie most signiflcaat," Mr Semple added, "that the majority of vehicles the Bepartment has tested so far have been found unfit for the road and xequire adjustments." The Minister said the law provided a maximum charge of , five shillings for the testing of ears. If ithere was any suggestion of price-cut-jting steps would be taken to eliminate 'it. 1
