PAKOWHAI ROAD
Mr Barnard's Intention to Report On It COUNTY DID NOT APPOINT HIM Intimation from the Hon. R. Semple Minister of Public Works, of his intention to visit the county at the end of this month or early in March was received • to-day by the Hawke's Bay County Council. This information prompted the inquiry from a councilior: "Will Mr Semple inspect the Pakowhai road?" .. "Mr Barnard is going to make a report on it," replied.the chairman, Mr F. B. Logan. "On behalf of the council, I have not appointed Mr Barnard as an inspector," added Mr Logan. "Perhaps Mr Barnard will ride his bicycle over the Pakowhai road/' sug-* gested a councjllor. "When Mr Barnard has ridden his bicycle over the Pakowhai road there are a few other roads in the county on which his bicycle would ' also give him a good slmking," said Cr. E. H. Beamish. "A fair thing js-a fair thing, but the matter of Pakowhai road has been overdone. Other people will begin to talk very soon," he added TENDERS FOR SEAUNG Tenders for the metalling of the Pakowhai road are to be considered "by the Hawke's Bay County Council at its March meeting. At to-day 'a meeting, Cr. C. Lassen expressed the opinion that hoth the Te Mata and Maraekakaho roads should be sealed before the Pakowhai road. In reply, tho chairman, Mr. F. B. Logan, said that the Pakowhai road was first on tfie list and could not be d%* ferred.
