(Received 6, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 5. The StandardiSation of the television system means that there will be no further tfaasmissions by the Baird system from Alexandra Palace and that the Mareolii E.M.I. System aloUe will be empioyed. Mr J. L. Baird told the "NewsChronicle" that his experiments would not be affected by the decision, which was taken in the interests of economy. Baird Co. shares have fallCn and U.M.I. shares have risen sliaiply. Baird Television, Ltd. has issuod a statement. It gave an assuranee that tho decision does not xuean tho settingup of a monopolistic situation and it cannot be too strongly emphasised that the adoption of a single standard does not mean the adoption of a particular system. The decision in no wa y diminishes the commercial prospects or limits the trading policy of the company, which is also continuing work in large-screen cinema television and mililary and other non-entertainment aspects.
