FERNHILL INSTITUTE OPENS THE NEW YEAR
The first meeting for 1937 of the Fernhill Women 's Institute jvas held on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Craven pnesided over a fair attendanee. A letter of sympathy is to be sent to M^ Bibby, Waipawa, in his reeent bereavement. Congratulations are to be sent to Miss Spencer, O.B.E., on the birthday honour that has been conferved on her. , The roll call, "Suggestions for the New Programme, " brought forth several new ideas. Nominations for. the new committee were also received. There were four entries in the eompetition for three onions, which resulted: Mrs Tong 1, Mrs Craven 2, Mrs Taylor 3, Mrs Davies 4. As Mr Hixon, Hastings, was unable to attend and give a talk on the culture of chrysanthemums, he forwarded a very interesting paper instead. This was read to members and many useful hints were given. Hostesses for afternoon tea wero Mesdames Finch and Lord. The singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close. Visitors to the Huramu sports were Mr and Miss Twist, of Greenmeadows, Mrs Leslie McHardy, of Blackhead, Mrs Alex Stead, of Hastings, Mrs Ron Patullo, of Hastings, Mr and Mrs Perey Horne, of Putere) Mr P.
