MEAT FROM THE WORKS Proposal to Stop Direct Sale to Public CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. xroposals are at present being considered by the Master Butchers' Associations throughout New Zealand whereby meat from freeziing works will no longer be sold direct to the publio or to institutions. The proposals are the result of a confereuce called at the direction of the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. Lee Maxtin) when complaints wero made to him of the competition rotail butchers were suffering from freezing works. A cQnferenco was held in Wellington some time ago and certain proposals were subroitted by freezing companies which are now being eonsiddred by butchers. The Minister said this evemng that a further meeting was to be held on February 14 and if no c- **.ter proposals were submitted "by the Lfutchers the matter would be completed. It is understood the freezing companies' proposal was that if they are no longer to retail moafc wliich through superficial damage in slaughteri.ng could not be passcd for exp°rt the butchers should sign an agroement to talce from the companies the whole of their outpui of such meat. It is further understood that the Government has undertaken to fix the priefi paid to companies and the retail pri to the publib.
