Wellington Wins Toss From Auckland 117 ATLUNCH TIME

AUCKLAND, This Day. Under ideal conditions, the Plunket Shield game between Auckland and Wellington opened at Eden Park thiB morning. Lamason won the toss from Vivian and Moloney and Tindall opened Wellington's innings to tho bowling of Oowie and Mathes'on. The game opened quietly to accurate bowling, Moloney nearly losing his wicket in Cowie's third over, the ball turning in to beat the batsman and hitting him above tho pad, cannoniug off and harrowly missing his off stump. Th© Manawatu player limped for some time afterwards. With the total at nine Tindill (lefthander) clean bowled the 1935 AllBlack with another which swung in. — 9-1-3. Du Chateau, another left-hander, was the newcomer, who soon succeodod with a shot which brought about Tindiil'o downfall. In th© meantime, Moloney mad© some fine drives, but only 13 runs wero on the board for " half an hour'e play, Du Chateau scored the first boundary with a glance off Matheson and from fche next ball, Garrard, in elips, missed a hot chance low down with his left hand. This bronght 20 up. After both had scored a few mor© .runa, Du Chateau, withi another fine glance and a snick through slips, reached double figures and brought up 30. He had nearly overhauled Moloney, who had then reached 16. At 32 Garrard, the 1923 New Zealand spin-bowler against MacLaren's Ehglishmen, replaced Oowie. At noon the total was 50 for an hour's play.
