RESUMPTION EXPECTED ON THURSDAY
SAN FRAiNCISCO, Feb. 2. A shipping strike settlement is regarded as certain and the steamship lines have started booking passengers and accepting cargoes in expectation of resuming operations on Thursday. The Matson Line proposes that the Monterey will sail on Feb. 10, unless delayed discharging cargo. She will probably sail again immediately on arrival at Sydney to make up the week iost on her sailing scliedule. The company has instructed that preference be given to Australians and New Zealanders and anticipates that nvery berth will be occupied. Mr Arthur O'Cbnner stated the strike had ruined what projnised to be a record summer for tourists thougb the roajority will go later.
