OHRISTCHLLKLJ1, Jjast rugu*. Indications that tl!e Government wai iconsidering the' eariy revision of the llicensing laws in New Zealand was, given to-day by the Minister of Jus-l tice (Hon. H. G. R. Mason) replying toi 'the representations of a deputation, ifrom Ashburton asking for considera[tion for what was termed an anomaly, [in the legislation affeoting the district. • Mr, Mason told the deputation that ihe hoped the licensing laws might come I under revision at an early date and ini [that event he would bring to the notice of the Government the representations j imade to be considered with others. The •Government had a substantial programme of social legislation to put; jinto effect and consequently it was not) possible to say with confidence how soon attention could be devoted to the licensing laws, He hoped the time would not be long before consideration could be given to the matter. He could hot Bay what the decision would be on any particular point. The case for- the deputation was that Ashburton had lost its licenses while part of a na-license area and it was now in a licensed area and so had no restor« ation poll and the people were there^r disfranchised on the lic^nsihg poll.
