Many regiular readers of the New Zealand Railways Magazine will have an impression that the February issue is the best to date. Three of New Zea--laud's vary- gifted women writers are seen at their best in sparkling sketchr es- — Robin Hyde in "Isle of the Glowing Sky — Stewart Island and a Glass i Box Mona Tracey in "Railway's End — The Rosstown that is Ross Beruice Shackleton in "Rural Vignette or the Forgotten Branch Line." James Cowan carries on "The Thirteenth Clue," a burlesque mystery story, with a very amusing instalment. Tn "Tlie Land of a Thousand Golden Beaches," 0. N. Gillespie reminds New Zeaiandei's about their very remarkable good iortuue in the possession of so many splendid bathing places by the sea. Ken Alexander, in "Custody of the Parent" has a merry skit on the plight of the modern parent at the
bands of surging youth. "Our Street" is a v.ery entertaining chat about neigvhbours by' "Tirohia,'' a pen name wh'.cn does not disguise the brignt style of a well established writer. Othcr good features. are "Maori Fishing," by Tano Fama, "Sport and Speetatnis ' by W. F. Ingram, "The Bawke'e Bay Mail" by John HarlandBanei, "By Rail . Through the Wai rarapa Valley," by "Straggler,'' "Reflectioris on Grandmothers," and "The 'Miteries' " by, "Helen" in the Women's section, "Among the Boo'rs, ' "Ihe Witchm of the Maori," t d "Pictores of New Zealand Life." Humo"oii3 illustrations by M. Matthews, Ken Alexander and A. g. Paterson are v-ell worthy of. mention among the sixty pictures.
