Milne (West End) .. 41 runa. Bowling. Wilkins (Methodist) ., 8 for 31. ( Eosenberg (West End) 6 for 22. Martia (West End) ., 4 for 23. On No. 1 wicket United had first use of the wicket, and after occupying the crease for the greater part of the afternoon, were responsible for the good score of 226. Quite a few batsmen made good scores, headed by Mahoney with 53, Fowler (41), Brimer (30), Shattky (28), Swallow (23) and O'Niell (17). The successful bowlers for Heretaunga were: Eouse (four wickets for 94 runs), Weymouth (two for 49), nnd Shuker (three for 37). With hardly suflicient time left to make the required number of runs for a win, Heretaunga were content to play for time, although the runs came fairly quickly. They seemed hardly likely to make sufficient runs, however, for when time was called they had lost six wickets for 102 runs. Tho best batsmen were Giorgi (47 not out) and Eouse (30). Most successful with the ball for United were: Swallow (three for 29), Fowler (two for 4), and Mahoney (one for 24). On No. 2 wicket West End batted flrst and were equal to only 96 runs. The chief contributors to this score were: Wileock (28), Talor (18), Wallis ^11) and Ladbrook (10 not out). Bowl- j ing for Methodist, Wilkins was the de- j etructive agent, capturing eight | wicket a for 31 runs. | Methodist, in reply to this score, were able to score only 56 runs, owing to the excellent bowling of Eosenberg, who took six for 22 and Martin four for 23. West End were thus able to establish a first-innings lead of 40 runs. Continuing in thir innings, West End fared much better, the innings being declared clotsed with eight down for 129, The principal scorers were Milne (41), Orr (26), MacDonald (26), and Wileock (20). Ball (three for 16) was the most successful bowler for Methodist.
Methodist also batted better in their second strike, time being called with two down for 52. The not-out batsmen, and ineidentally the best scorers, were Gosnell (20) and Sadler (19). West End thus seored a win by 40 runs on the first innings. Glances. Fowler, a new addition to TTnited. made a good debut by seoring an excellent 41. Judging by his display, a few runs can be expected from him any time he plays. Shattky (United) is another player who is displaying good form this season. Ho has consistently got runs and is an example of the benefit obtained from plenty of practice.
