Cup Meeting Opens To-morraw DOZEN IN BIG EVENT
(By
The prospects for to-morrow and Saturday aie bright for the Taranaki Jockey dub's Cup meeting. Hawke's Bay stables *will be represented by Sansfoy only. With the exception of the hurdles all the events have filled most satisfactory. The Taranaki Cup, the principal event of the meeting, will in all probability see a dozen go to the post. Dungarvan has been withdrawn. Spiral was nnluoky in the Wellington Cup, being interfered with just as he was about to make his run. His trainer says that this Limond horse is a better horse than ever. Hazoor must be a consideration, and Onewhetu is expected any day to repeat last autumn's form. Martara, after his runaway victory the last day at Trentham, will be one of the favourites. Chief Ranger is an unknown quantity over 10 furlongs. The recent form of Aussie B-a is not eneouraging, but Taitoru, after his double victory at Wanganui last week has just olaims to recognition. Of the others Tahurangi is nndoubtedly the best performed. Last season Oratory was considered the maJdngs of a stayer, but this year she is decidedly best over short courses. and should handle 9.9. Wotan, the Melboume Cup winner} certainly gives tono to the meeting, but over a sprinfe course will not be suited. Old Refresher will be considered seriously, ,while of the others Ned Cuttle and Notium on recent happenings are the pick. The minor events should furnish interesting racing, with plenty 0f material to select from. The following may carry inost monetary support in their respective races. WAITARA HURDLES.— Court Arma, Bazaine. JUVENILE HANDICAP. — Gr&enwich, Orate, Gay Step. FLYING HANDICAP.— Oratory. Notium, Refresher. ELECTRIC HANDICAP— Gay Step. Glenthawn, -Eagle's Eye.
