The burial of Johan Turi, an outstanding figure among the nomads of Northern Sweden, took place at Jukkasjarvi on January 3. Johan Turi was born in 1854. He was widely known for his books on the life and history of the Laplanders. He was beloved by all members of his clan and was honoured by the officials of the Swedish Government, acting as an ambassador between Stockholm and the immigrant farmers of Lapland.
