WAR RELIEF

Hawke's Bay Executive Meets Grants and loans to soldiers amounfcing to £388 14/5 have been made by the Hawke'g Bay War Relief Aesociw tion during Decemher 1936, and January 1937, acoording to a statement placed before a meetinjB of the Napier; branch committee of the aeeociation iast night. Loans refunded amounted to £297 2/2. Present at the meeting were the i.Jiairman, Mr G. S. V. Wenley, Mr H. Steele and Dr. H. F. Bernau. He .secretaryt Mr H. J. Russell was aiso ijresent. The etatement for December showed bhat grants had been made to 62 soldiere, amounting to £116 11/11, and to four dependants, amounting to £12 9/6. Loans to soldiers amounted to £68 19/3 and payments on account of the Flock House scheme to £10 19/8. Loans refunded by soidierg amounted to £122 2/10, and refunds on acoount of other societies to £39 10/-. in January 1937 grants amounting to £94 4/9 were made to 26 soldiers, and grants to nine dependants to £7 LO/-. Loans to 10 soldiers amounted to £77 19/2. Loans refunded by 23 aoldiers totalled £98 19/4 and refundu on account of other societies by seven soldiers to £44 10/-. Numerous soldiers' casps were placed before the committee during the meeting, grants amounting to £59 17/6 and a loan of £4 19/2 being authorised, It was decided to recommend to the executiive of the association that a crant of £16 11/6 should be made.
