H B. Award Being Discussed in Napier 40-HOUR WEEK AGREED Proposals mad© .by the Hawke's Bay Builders' and General Labourers' Union regarding rates of pay, holidays and other matters affecting workers, and counter-proposals su'bmitted by the Hastings and Napier BoroUgh Councils, the Hawke's Bay Rivers Board and other local bodies of Hawke's Bay? are being considered in Napier to-day by a Council of Conciliation. The sitting will last two days, and those elauses upon wliichi the parties cannot agree will be submitted to arbitration. The chairman of the committee, Mr M. J. Reardon, is presiding over the following : — Employers' assessors : _ The Mayor and. Town Olerk of Hastings, Messrs G. A. Maddison and N. O. Harding; the Mayor and Town Clerk of Napier, Messrs Q. O. Morse and F. R. Watters; the Napier Borough engineer, Mr W. D. Corbett; and Mr R. M. Chadwick. Einployees' assessors. Messrs R. J. Readon, J. Atkinson, C.Jennings, .H. Kay and J. Cuxxxmings. • As far as hoxirs of work are concerned, there is no dispute, as all parties agree upon a 40-hour-week, to be worked on five days. The item for discussion this morning was rates of pay. The various classes of work are Hsted, and the claims of the Builders' and General Labourers' Union vary from 2/6 to 2/10 an hour. The countei-proposals of the local bodies are for a lower scale, varying from 2/1 to 2/4 for work on tlxe hourly basis. This item was still being considered when the "Herald-Tribune" went to preBs this afternoon. The local bodies concerned in the questions in dispute are the following: The Dannevirke Power Board, the Dannevirke Borough Council, the Hastings Borough Councji, the Havelock North Town Board, the Hawke's Bay Electris Power Board, the Hawke's Bay Rivers Board, the Napier Borough Council, the Napier Harbour Board, the Ormondville Town Board, the Taradale Town ' Board, the Waipawa Borough Council, the Waipukurau Borough Council, the Wairoa Borough Council *nd the Woodville Borough Council.
