(Received 1, 8.45 a.m.)
NEW YORK, Jan. 29. Joe Louis won the decision over Pastor, the yerdict of the two judgea being unanimous. Pastor, who waa obviously hoping only to stay the ten rounds, maintained an almost constant retreat in the faco of hai*d hitting and hia rival's advances. Louis tried to make a fight of it but found the task impossible. Pastor could be eredited with the second round only. Louis clearly earned the other nine, but the spectators were hoping Pastor would win by a miracle and booed the decision. The crowd aumbered more than 19,000 and the receipts were in excess of 100,000 dollars.
Most of the first round was spent in sparring. Finally Louis drove a right to the head, a left to the face and then a right to the head, but Pastor was unhurt. ln the second, both used the left jab etnd missed frequently. Pastor rushed in, driving both hands repeatedly to the body and carried Louis againSt the ropes. Pastor was outjabbixig Louis when the round ended. In the third Pastor began 'to retreat with the exception of one furious body exchange in wliich he held his own. Louis missed with several right« due to Pastor 's retreat. Louis landed three rights to the head in the fourth round but they were ineffective, Pastor going away. It appeared in the fifth that Louis wai getting closer. He hooked several (ight lefts to the head and then hooked
a left sharply to the jaw. That made Pastor ;s knees knock. One of Pastor 's jabs caused Lonis's nose to bleed. In the sixtli round Pastor rushed Louis to the ropes, but the Brown Boinber ripped a right uppercut to the face. An exciting mix*up followed in which both swapped body blows. Pastor was on the ropes" and after sparring rushed in twice, absorbing a left to the body and a right uppercut. In the seventh Pastor went baekward faster than Louis could go forward with the resuit that Louis missed half-a-dozen rights, although landing light left jabs. Pastor clinched several times when Louis overtook him. One of the minutes of the eighth were wasted before Louis could get close enough to attempt a blow. He rammed a right to the ehin which drove Pastor solidly to the ropes and forced him to clineh to keep out of range for the rest of the round. In the ninth Louis, who was now desperate, rushed eontinually, attempting to catch his retreating opponent. He missed a right to the jaw and then clinched with both hands. Louis stabbed several lefts to the face and a right to the body. Just as the beil went he landed a savage right to the face, the best blow of the fight. In tbe tenth Pastor held his ground long enough to drive a grazlng right to the j&w, but Louis almost upset him with a left hook to the head aud landed both hands to the body. Pastor resumed his retreat but Louis was still pressing at the ball.
