A research worker has proved to the scientific world that the process of going to sleep and awakening ia;. not oonfined to manklnd, animals 'and birds, but extends to plants, and it is also known that the lai'ter have abilib to feel. Some evidence as to the'necessity of sleep for rice fields was npheld by a legal action not long ago. An electra*, light comnany ereeted a large neon advertising sign alongside aome Japanese rice fields, and the JSrittex's ;)rotested, saying that this WOuld interfere with the natural growth of their crops; but their protests were ignored, They took the case to law, when it was found that the crop refused to ripen, and scientists were called to show that the electric sign kept the rice from proper /est..
