The Fruit-Marketing Commission

WELLINGTON, This Day. The Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, has received the complete report of the Pruit Commission. The Minister stated in Christchurch that so f ar he had not had an opportunity of giving it much thought and study. It was a very voluminous document, he said, and covered all phases of the production and internal marketing of .fruit, both wholesale and retail. "Very defmite recommendations are made by the commission, and it appears, from a cursory glance through the report, that there is a great need for a thorough overhaul of the whole system,,, the Minister added. The personnel of the committee was as follows: Mr A« Coleman, chairman; Mr J. A. Campbell, Direetor of Horticulture in the Department of Agriculture; and Mr,J. Thomas, of the Department of Industries and Commerce. Mr Coleman, who has had considerable legal and accountancy experience, was for some years chairman of the Taranaki Mortgagors* Eelief Commission. He is at present a member of the Conrt of Eeview of Eural Mortgages which is presided over bv Mr Justice Johnston. * The committee had a wide order trf reference and investigated all. aspects of the wholesale and retail trade" in fruit and vegetables. The committee sat in the following centres and , fruit-growing areas: Dunedin, Roxburgh, Alexandra, Christ-' church, Hastings, Tauranga, Keri Keri, Auckland, Wellington,. Nelson and Motueka.
