The reflecting iriirror 'was ground from a ship 's glass^ porthole ' c6ver, one inch thiek and eight inches • in diameter, while the 20001b. dome was made from twenty-four curbed ribs, which were covered with wood and sheathed with thin sheet copper. The dome was built separately in a school workshop, and moved in one piece to the observatory site. Sliding shutters eover the aperture cut into the dome, through which the telescope tube protrudes.
