Only pcrsonal friends caught glimpses, now and then, of the kind of work which passed througli her hands;. of her genuine'syinpathy for those women aho herself brought. to justice; of the understanding which enabled her to persuade the authorities of her city to set up a worlcshop, where men and women due, j by police regulation, to be transferred' to their own districts, or possibly to the frontier, might be ussfully employed during the time they waited for their removal.
