First Contracts Let Under State Building Scheme FLETCHER'S SUCCESSFUL

(By Telegraph-

WELLINGTON, This Day. The first series of tenders in connechon with the Government 's housing proposals® was announced by the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, to-day. The successful tenderer for the supply of joinery was the Fletcher Construction Co., Ltd. For 19 separate housing contracts 35 tenders were received, the successful ones being the Fletcher Construction Co. and Higgins and Arcus. Mr Savage mentioned several factors in connectione with the contracts that make it impossible to arrive at the exact figure of the contracts, but there was no doubt, he said, that the rents to be charged would compare more than favourably with the rentals being asked to-day. He said also that these houses would set a new standard fer working-class housing in New Zealand.
