Dunedin Bookmaking Raid

DUNEDIN, Last Night. In the Police Court, Robert David Donaldson and John Philip Donaldson were fined £250 each for bookmaking. Fines imposed on three other young luen, two for assisting and the third for permitting the use of the premises, brought the Crown's accretion of revenue to £560. The police stated that for the first day of the Wellington meeting 489 bets were taken for a total of £511, while the total for the meeting was 1927 bets for £1247. Bank deposits showed that since July 25 the sum of £8504 had been paid to the Donaldaons ' credit, on which flgures £1489 would have acerued to the Government had the money passed through the totalisator.
