Inspection of Cars

"KNEE ACTION.'

(To. the Editor,) Sir, — I feel that the charge of 5/for testing a motor-ear every six months is just about the last straw. The test is an absolute farce.' A car can be given a certifieate of fttness and be completely out of order within a week of certificationj. Anyone with meehanical knowledge knows this. Yet the certifieate protects that cai for six months. A far surer way of elixninating unflt cars and road accidents is by caneelling a car 's registration where its unfltness is found to be the canse of the aecident and by impounding the car where carelesa driving is found to be the cauae. Those methods would be far less costly to the motoring public, and far more efficacious in achiovingg the desired results than the certiiicate method. In any oase 5/- is an exorhitant charge for such a test as is proposed. Half the price would more than meet tjie cost. It is time that the motorist woke up and realised the way fTifl-o- !ita bfiinj* fixnloited. — -Yonrs, etc.,
