Mr. G. N. Bees, of Hastings, is vlsift* ing Wellington. Mr. A. L. Curry, senior announccr at SYA, Christchurch, is spending his aunual leave in the North Island. Senior-Sergcant W. Pender, Napier, is at present in Marton, as a witnesg in a case proceeding at the Magistrate's Court there. The Right Bev, S. W. WiUiams,, Bishop of Waiapu, who has been on a visit to the Eafct Coast district and who attended the Science Congress in Auckland, has returned to Napier, Mr. Michael Head, examiner in Kew Zealand this year for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, left for England by the Niagara vm Tuesday night. Mr. R. F. Malfroy, until recently manager of the Pitt Btreet branch oi the Bank of New South Wales, Sydney, has arrived at Wellington, wliere he is to take up an appointment as .as6istant inspector for New ZealandMr. D. T. Allen, district telegraph engineer at Wanganui, is shortly to retire on superannuation on the completion of 42 years' service with tho department. He has been im charge of the Wanganui and New Plymouth engineer ing districts since 1930. Dr. J. Hight, rector of Canterbury College, has been granted leave of absence to enable him. to attend the con- - ference of Australian and New Zealand universities being beld at Adelaidc at tbe end of February. He will return two or three weeks after the beginning of the university year in March. Mr. P. Garvey, of the Hastings Railway Department staffj leaves on Saturday on transfer to New Plymouth. At an evening held at Mr. J. Carmichael'e residence, the opportunity was takea of farewelling Mr. Garvey, when hm. was presented with a handsome clock by Mr. T. Martin, on behalf of the Hastings railway staff. Mr. Garvey suitably replied. -Mr Jack Harris, Napier, accompanied by tbe secretary of the Napier Thirty Thousand Club, Mr S. P. Spiller, left Napier by car yesterday morning for Gisborne, where they wero present last night at tbe meeting oi tbe Gisborne Thirty Thousand Club, to discuss witb them the protests regarding tbe Miss Hawke's Bay and East Coast bathing belle competition. Mr. N. F. Foi'd, & member of tlie staff of the Lands and.Deeds Office at Napier, has received notice of iiis transfer to Dunedin, and will probably leavo Napier next montli.
