HOMELIKE FURNITURE FOR MODERN GARDENS
It is the colourful garden, full of sunlight and shadow, that calls most gaily for occupational furniture, for it induces the mood for homelike pursuits. It is more or less th© extension of the house into the open, and bookg and sewing baskets are expected accessories. This is the garden for "gliders," thos© seats that sway backward and forward on a ball-bearing mechanism and that are brigihtly upholstered and sometimes canopied ; a garden for chaises longues, that can be rolled on rear wheels into favourable positions. This, too, is th© garden for reed, ratan, and similar pieces, picturesque in form and eomfortable in design. A round table pierced by a pole that, descendiug with a spike into the ground, supports a huge umbrella covered with weatherproof material, fits pleasantly into the colourful _ garden development that is characteristicc of New Zealand.
