UMKloiVxl U JX^idL, A proposai is under consideration to approach the Prime Minister and Min- | ister of Native Affairs, the At. Hon. M. J. Savage, for Government assistance in. erectiug a model Maori pa in or near Christchurch as an attraction for tourists. The advocates of the scheme are Mr J. J. W. Pollard, director of the South Island Travel Association, nnri Mr Te Ari Pitma. a prominent
Maori, of Tuahiwi. Both argue that tourists, and especially those on recent cruises of the Maunganui, had been disappointed at not being able to see the Maoris in their native setting, and it was desirable that a pa should be built to give this opportunity. Mr. Pitma suggested to-day that the first step, however, would be the establishment of a native art school.
