PALMERSTON N., This Day. When being congratulated last evening by a deputation on the success of his road safety campaign, the Minister of Transport,. Hon. R. Semple, took.the opportunity. of explaining further steps he. proposed taking by way of legisiatio'n shortly to lessen still more the number of accidents , and fatalitfes and teaeh motorista road manners. He stated that his propogal was for the Transport Department to take over traffic control in all towns of 6000 inhabitants and under, fees received and fines imposed being devoted to employing inspectors (not pimps, he added) whose duty It would be to educate mo'torists. Safety on the road depended a lot on not terrorising drivers but on trainiUg them. When a man was fin9d it was proper that his fine should go towards making life on the roads safer. There was no reasohable objection to the pooling of fines and fees for such a purpose as to make the roads safe. The Ministev stated that he was cxtremely grateful to the Automobile Associations for the co-operation they had given him and the work they were doing on the highways was wonderful.
