Fell Into Stream From Anchored Canoe

ROTORUA, Jan. 24. . A fatality occurred at Ngongotaha at 12.15 p.m. to-day when a young' Maori boy, Raimona Gear, aged three years, lost hia f ooting while attempting io cross the Waiteti stream on a canoe and was drowned. At the inquest which was opened in the afternoon before Mr W. L. Richards, coroner, the mother of : tiie child stated tha,t deceased, in company with his sister, Violet Gear, aged 7, left home late on Sunday morning. When last seen by her they Were headed- ih the direction of the Waiteti stream^ where a canoe wais anchored for use as a bridge.
