KENNEL ASSOCIATION

Ful] Year's Activities Reviewed Following is the annual report of the Hawke 's Bay Hennel Association, to be prefeented at the annual meeting In the Friendly Societies' Hall, Hastings, to-night: — Shows. — During the year the Hawke 's Bay Kennel Association in conjunction with the Hawke 's Bay A. and P. Society held the usual Autumn and Spring Shows, of which both were a huge success. The judges for the autumn show were Mr. T. Munroe and Mr. Chas. K. Thomas, of Napier, while thope who officiated at the spring show were all active members of the New Zealand Kennel Club— Mr. J. Soler, sporting; Mr. A- E, Betts, terriers; and Mr. S. H. Rastall, non-sporting. All the judges carried out their duties in a very effieient and satiefactory manner, and the deeisions met with genei'al approval. Both shows wero well suppprted and very successful," and to th' se officers who so ably assisted us we tender our very sincere thanks. Parades. — The association held four ribbon parades during the year-— the first one in Napier in connection with the Mardi Gras, when the following officers acted as judges: — ^Messrs, HLange, J. Gleeson, J. B. Wainscott, and Mrs. E. McGaffin. The second parade was held at Greenmeadows in conjunction with the Northern Haawke 'a Bay Greyhound Association, where Messrs. H. Lange, J. Gleeson and W. Howell carried out their duties very succegsfully, The other two parades were staged in Hastings and it was deeided to get outside judges, Mr. Bedingfield, of Palmerston North, taking the one and Mr. W. Lacey, of Whakaronga, the other. These two lattei parades were a huge success. It is doubtful if two better parades have ever been held in Hawke 's Bay, and to all who assisted with these parades we extend our sincere thanks. "During the Spring Show the New Zealand Kennel Club held its annual meeting on Oetober 21 in the Council Chambers, Hastings. , * 4 This year was the golden jubilee of the New Zealand Kennel Club and a very large number of delegates and visiting fanciers were entertained at a teoeial evening and were the guests of the Haawke 's Bay Kennel Club," who provided the jubilee cake to celebrate the 50 years' reign of the parent body. Finance. — A satisfactory state of the association 's finances is Tevealed by the balance-sheet ands statement of receipts and expenditure for the year as given by the honorary treasurer. Donations. — Your executive was again fortunatae in receiving cash and other donations which greatly assisted m making our shows a finaneial success. Resignations. — It is with deep regret that we have to. agajn report a further loss In three of our executive officers. The association 's hon. treasurer, Mr. S. W. Baker, who had for the past three years so suecessfully carried out his duties, was transferred to Palmerston North; the executive elected Mr. T. Jobey to fill the position. Within the next few weeks we lost the services of Mr. and Mrs. R. Dunn, also, through transfer to Rotorua. For one who had only been connected with the association a few years, Mr. Dunn was a very loyal, silent, but bonest worker, and one of those officers with whom it was a pleasure to work. Mrs. Dunn has rendered yeoman service with the soeial side of our. functions and is going to be very hard to replace. Although resigning froni official duties, all three are continuing as members of the association. Obituary. — It is with very sincere and deepest sympathy we rcgret the loss of Mr. J, G. Parker, of Napier, who has been called acrosg the deep divide. Mr. Parker was one of the oldest fanciers in New Zealand and a life jnember ofi th'el association. In his younger days he bred and owned some of the finest show collies that ever graced the show benehes, and he was wjdely known throughout New Zealand as a good sport and a keen Isportsman. Another old fancier in Mr. C- Davis was also called to his last, long rest. He was very interested in; sheep-dog trials, but also found timo to exhibit his dogs on the show benehes. He was a foundation member of the association, and hi's cheery presence will be fsadly missed at show time. To his relatives we express our deepest sympathy. Social. — We again tender Our thanks to the ladies ' committee for the very effieient manner in which they have carried out their duties at all our social functions and to express our appreciataion of the spirit of harmony and goodwill existing among them. In conclusion, I must express my sincere thanks to all members of the executive, the hon. seeretary, hon. treasurer, donors of speeial prizes, judges, hon. veterinary surgeons, the Press, the ladies' committee, and all those who performed their variQUS duties and assisted to maintain that spirit of harmony so neeessary if the best interests of our association are to be served.
