Fine Imposed Under New Kegulations SEQUEL TO 'ACCIDENT Charged under the Motor Yehicles Amendment Act, 1936, with^ inconsiderate driving and with failing to report to the police forthwith an acciaent in which Dorothy Hindrup, of Napier, was injured, (Jharles Edward Cogni, of Napier, commercial traveiler, appeared in the Napier Magistrate's Court yesterday before Mr J. Miller, S.M., and was fined £1 on each charge, with 17/- and 10/- costs respectively. Constable 35. Beck gave evidence of a telephone message from the defendant reporting the accident. He had been lold that the accident should have been immediately reported. In a statement given to Constable J. "Williamson, defendant stated that he had taken every preeaution to observe &11 the rules of the xoad, and denied oflering to pay for the damage to the bicycle. Dorothy Hindrup gave evidence of an accident in which she was slightly injured. The driver of the car alighted and asked if she was hurt, and offereil to pay for the damage to the bicycle. &ke was in the hospital for a week following the accident. Mr R. B. G. Chadwick, who defended Cogni, stated that in regard to report' ing the accident defendant did not realise that the injuriea were extensive. The Magistrate: The regulatioiis provide that if there is any injury the matter must be reported. In this case the injuriea were spinal, and it is not f or birn to say whether they were serious.
