BANQUET HELD Waipukurau Fire Brigade Celebrations MANY VISITORS

WAIPUKUKAU, Jan. 25. The Waipukurau Fire Brigade celebrated its silver jubilee with a banquet in the Masonic Hafll on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance, including visitors from other parts of Hawke's Bay and from Wellington, Taranaki and Manawatu. Representatives from the following brigades were present: Eastbourne, Lower Hutt, Petone, Otaki, Patea, Palmerston North, Dannevirke, Waipawa, Hastings, Napier and Port Ahuriri. The Waipukurau Orchestra entertained and the following contributed items: Mr F. N. Ward, monologues; Messrs J. Boyce, E. T. Haldane, T. Fox and J. V^hite, songs. In proposing the principal toast of tho Waipukurau Brigade, Mr A. E. Jull, Waipawa, as the oldest fireman in tho room, congratulated the brigade on attaining their silver jubilee. He had watched the brigade from its inception, he said, and right through its twenyfive years' service it had been excelJently served with good men as captains and firemen. Mr Jull quoted a number of reminiscences. He remembered .when they were unable to purchase necessary equipment and had to depend on a hat collection to purchase a few feet of bose. Mr J. A. Chambers, superintendent of the brigade thanked Mr Jull and the visitors. The presentation^was made of twoyears bars to various flremen and a gold star to the superintendent, Mr J. A. Chambers, who hara completed 25 years' service with the Waipukurau brigade. The presentation was made by Mr G. Butcher, chief inspector of fire brigades m the Dominion. Mr Butcher hoped that the brigade would be able to get a new engine shortly. This had been impossible during the depression. Two-yeara bars were awarded .to: Fireman H. Sclierf (11 years' service), Sect. W. Chappell (21 years' service), Fireman M. Woodward (11 yeans' service), and Fireman J. Schroeder (15 years' service). The toasts were: "Pioneer Members" (Fireman J. Arlidge — Mr Bower (irovesnor and Mr G. Reg. Cook; "Past Members" (Fireman H. A. Bcherf — ex•Superintendents F. J. Lloyd and I. Jre)and); "Waipukurau Borough Couueil" ^Foreman A. 8. Annand — Mr 1. W. N. Mackie and Cr. J. McCarthy); "The Visitors" (Fireman C. "Woodward — Fireman L. Horne, Mr McVicar and others); "The Press" (Mr W. Chappell— Mr A. Holmes); "The Musicians" (the chairman — Mr E. Malkin); "The Ladies" (Fireman P. Bridgman — jj'ireman ti. Spotswood).
