Valuable Painting Found at Dunedin WORTH AT LEAST £1500

DUNEDIN, Jan. 2o. A valuable art work has been found in Dunedin, a painting which a loc&l resident, Mr Harold Freed, purchased at auction for a modest sum being reported by Mr Barnett, a Londott expert visiting Dunedin, to be a genttind' Franz Hals. The subject is & pottrftit of a Dutch cavaliei'. Mr Barnett, who consented to vieW the painting, stated that the pieture Was undoubtedly from the telier of th# Flemish master. Like every great Master, Hals had many pupils to whos# work he would add touches. Mr Bar*» nett assessea the value of the paintiag at from £1500 to £2000. Franz Hals, the Dutch painter, lived from about 1580 to 1666. Probably hS# best known work is The. Laughisg. Cavalier, in the Wallace collectids, ^ ,
