Car Smashes Into Telegraph Pole BURST TYRE THE CAUSE

BLENHEIM, Jan. 24. Five people were admitted to hospital last evening as the resnlt of a car crashing into wooden telegraph pole on top of Elevation Hill, near Picton. The party, which was returning from the Marlborough inter-club regatta at Picton, comprised Messrs. A. E. J. Morrison, driver, J. N. Morrison, H. F. Ching, B. Patchett, and a lad, Herbert Doggett, all of Blenheim. • Mr. A. E. J. Morrison received deep lacerations to the face and was unconscious- for several hours. He also fractured his right forearm. Mr. Patchett ;s left knee was disloeated and he is also suffering from ' abrasions and shock. The other three passengers escaped with a heavy shaking and a few cuts and bruises and were allowed to returi1 home to-day. * The accident occurred through a tyro bursting and causing the car' to slew to the Bide where it collided with terrific force with the post, which was knocked over to one side. Several telephone wires «onneeting Blenheim and Picton were severed, and the car was completely wrecked.
