Minimum Amonnt Not Giren "This is a most serious offence, and I ask that it be treated as a continning offence if the arrears are not paid," ■aid Mr E. A. Wood, Inspector of Factories, during proceedings in the Napier Magistrate' s Court this morning against O. B. Hansen, managing director of C. B. Hansen and Co., Ltd. Napier, for failingj to pay an employee, D. J. B. Fenwick, the minimum rates of wages as prescribed by the Factories " Amendment Act, 1936. Mr Wood stated that an inspection of the books kept by the firm revealed that the employee in question had ■aore than three years' experience, but was not being paid the correct wages. Two lettets to the defendant failed to evoke a reply, and' when the third was answered, an interview was arranged. Defendant, howeVer, failed to keep the appointment, and further letters were not answered. There was no appearance of the defendant. in Court, and the inspector did not know if ihe arrears had been paid. The Magistrate fined defendant £5, #osts 10/-.
