H.B. Fruit growers to Uiscuss Control Measures
PREVENTION OF DAMAGE
Hawke 's Bay f ruitgrowers are to hold a conference slxortly to disquss methods pf frost control in their orchaxds. This mattqr vwas raised" at a meeting of orchardists held laet night by the president of the Hawke's Bay Fruitgrowers ' Assoeiation,' Mr J. H, Milne, when he suggested that such a discussion would bo advisable if further catastrophes such aa oecurrpd in Hawke's Bay last yeaiy when the bulk of the fruit crop was wiped out by frost, were to b« avoided. "We will have io go into the matter thoroiighly, and we will have to move fairly soon," said Mr Milne. "We should have a meeting shortly and sea what is the best we can do to prevent a repetition of the last frost. ' ' There are a number of methods availabla for combuting frost, but J think the oil heating system i« the best for Hawke's Bay. Therq is no doubt that a conference would be well wortb while, when we could discuss thi# fully." The question of frost control was also mentioned by Mr Ealph Paynter, who, while on his recent trip to England, stadied the methods adopted in orchard practice in the Old Country. "I hadn't the opportunity of investigating heating methods in England, but I have fiooked up different publieationa which I seleetqd during my visit Home," said Mr Paynter, who thep quoted an article issued by the British Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheriga.
