Jury Roll. The Napier police have now commenced their annual task of compiling the jury roll for the Supreme Oourt sessions of the year. The first sitting Qf the court takes place in Napier early next month, and hefore that time the list of citizens eligible for jury service will have been compiled, and a number of names drawn for the several juries required during the session. Fruit-industry Control. The fact that the English fruitgrowerg have no central organisation like the New Zealand Fruitgrowers' Fetleration was mentioned at a meeting of Hawke's Bay orchardists last evening by Mr Relpbi Paynter, member qf the New Zealand Fruit Control Board. "There are local associations of growerSj who are alfiiiated with the Natipnal Farmers' Union, but there is no control body like we have in New Zealand," he stated, Codim Moth The codlin moth is becoming a more serious menace in fruit-growiug distriots throughout the world. This was the opinion expressed by Mr. Ralphi Paynter; when speaking at a meeting of Hawke's Bay fruitgrowers last night. Referring to past control in English orchards, Mr. Paynter said that the codlin moth was causing more coucern at Home now than in the past. "I am told that in some districts in California it is impossible to control the" codlin moth at all," he commented. Swimming Baths Crowded With the influx of Wellington' visitors and the hot weather of the last twq days, the Napier Municipal Baths have been crowded for the greater part of the day, and especially at lunch timo. Yesterday, in particular, saw the seats' at the baths so crowded that it was difficult to find seating space in the buiiding, while there were so many people in the water that anytlidng in the n'jture of serious swimming practice was impossible. Many swimmers have formed the habit of having lunch at the baths or on the beach. Hawke's Bay Tennis, Although the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association first chai'lenged the Hawke's Bay Lawn Tennis Association for the Christie Cup, a cbaUenge from Manawatu has reached the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association first and will now take precedence over the Wanganui challenge, A Hawke's Bay team will play Manawatu at the Hawke's Bay Lawn Tennis Ciub's courts, Napier, on Saturday, -February 6, and if Hawke's Bay still retain the trophy, the gaino at Wanganui will be arranged later. The Hawke's Bay team will be announced about the middle of next week., Fountain Hours curtailed. The hours at which the Tom Parker Fountain, Napier, may be -seen to play have now been curtailed^ and on nights when a high wind blows the water across the gardens and on to the pavement on .Che Marine Parade the fountain w:'. Jaot play, On nights when a moderate wind is blowiug, the fountain will play for a shorttime only, and onv cairn nights will play from 8.30 p.m, to 10 p.m. The turf around the fountain, which has water continually playing on it, has shown signs of siuking, but this is merely a natural consolidation process, and js expected shcrtly to cease when the turf has firmly taken root. Trees and Powor Lines. Power w.as °ut qff the Bay ViewEskdale district for two hours yesterday afternoon while oue of the.Hawke's Bay Elqptric Power Board' s main feeder lines was being moved to a new poaitjon across the ra'ilway gravel pit at Bay View. While this work was in progress a large hluegum tree on the property of Mr. Reynolds, Eskdale, -fell acrcss the line breaking the wires. This trouble took some time to locate and repairs were effected and power restored at 6.22 p.m, Tliis is another instanqe of the danger of, trees in the vicinjty of power lines, and property owners are advised that the Power Board will cut down, free of cost, all trees that may be a danger to the lines. Pow«r Board Buiiding, The front elevation, of the new Hawke's Bay Power, Board buiiding, to be erected in Hastings, on the site next to the Municipal Buildings, , previously occupied by the Salvatiou Army Hall, is now on display in the Power Board Office in Heretaunga street. Tbose who have seen the elevation are commenting most favourably on the design, aud tfie huildiug should enhance still further the many fine buildings in Heretaunga street. The elevation shows a two-storied buiiding, of most jnodern design, the ground floor frontage being occupied. by pn expanse of windows? with entrances at both sides, which will permlt of plenty of room for display purposes. The upstairs portiou is of office design, and here again there are plenty of windows and an attraqtive facade. In association with the Municipal buildings block, this new office will make administrative buildings of the two of the local bodes mo^t concerned with Hastings, a particularly fine landmark.
