TEMPERATURE UP TO 85 DEGREES IN SHADE TO-DAY

The people of Hastings and Napier sweltered under one of the hottest days experienced this summer to-day, when the countryside was swept hy a dry westetlly wind from the mountain eountry. At mid-day the temperature in both townB ranged from 80 to 85 degrees in the shade, while out in the sunshine the heat was almost unhearable. Wellington excursionists in Hawke 's Bay will return to the capital city on Monday suffering from an overdose of the sun on their legs and backs as a resuit of lying on the beaches to-day in their swimming attire.
