Dominion Championships

CHEISTCHUEOH, Jan. 21. The New Zealand swimming championship meeting, the Maori championships and the junior and intermediate championships will be abandoned this year because of the epidemic of infantile paralysis. This decision was mado at a meeting of the council of tho New Zealand Swimming Association this evening. Because of the abandonment of all ehampionship meetings, the council deeided, in order to have a guide for selecting prohable representatives for the Empire Games at Sydney in Fehruary, 1938, to ask centres to furnish a list 'of the times of their leading swimmers so that a ranking list could t ) compiled. The New Zealand championships wero to have been held at New Plymouth, commencing on February 6. The junior and intermediate championships at Nelson had been postpoiied from January 16 till Easter, but will uow ,be abandoned. The Maori championships were to uave been held at Eotorua next month.
