AUCKLAND. Jan. 22. While the fields for the minor races on the Thames Jockey Club's conclucliug day on Saturday are very good. it i.s very probable that the open events will produce onlv modest-sized fields. Nevertheless, the racing should aaaln prove very interesting. There was a thrilling finish i tJie Goldfields Cup vesterday, four horsos erossing the line lockccl togother after all the runners had become hunched less than half a furlong from liome. Practically all the participants are engagied in the President's Handicap on Saturday, and it is obvious that there is not much between them. The . track was hard and fast, but the weather is still rather unsettled.
Win-and-place betting wijl again be in operation. Horses likely to be well supported on Saturday are: — KOPU HANDICAP— Madelon, Orefield. Bryce Street. • HIKUTAIA HURDLES Caleutta.
