HASTINGS BAND
Preparations For N.Z. Contest GOOD PROGRESS MADE Nightly practices are now being hela by the Hastings Citizen's Band in preparation for the New Zealand bano contest, to he held at Nelson next month, from. February 15 to February 22. "The practices have been' well attended, and the players are all very enthusiastie,'' stated the bandmaster, Mr C. Bryant, in discussing the progress of the band. with a "Her-ald-Tribune" reporter this morning. "The practices are beinjg held both in the bandroom and in Nelson Park," continued Mr Bryant, who exten.ded tio invitation to membens of the public tt» come along and see and hear the band doing its preparation work. "The public are always weleome, ' ' he - saia, "and the bandsmen like to see them taking an interest in our progress." The Hastings band is enter ed for the B grade championship and the quictistep. It will be rccalled that last year the Hastings band won this latter ovent, and with it tlie Bbardlow BhiekJ, and also put up a very good performance in tlie chanspionsiiip pieees. The tirSt selection, Mr Bryant inxormed the • ' H'eraid-Tribuhe, ' ' was the test selection at Crystal Palace for the world 's championship, and although it was a very difficult p;ece; particularly for B grade bands, the Hastings band was doing very well with it. "The marcb selection is fown choice'," said Mr Bryant, "arid tbe number which we have ehosen is 'Twentieth Century' (Ord ' Hume), Here again the results so far are most satisf actory. ' '
