Municipal and General Workers' Union

WELLINGTON, Jan. 21. Questions affecting decisions of the Court of Arbitration in making influs trial awards were discussed at a recent meeting pf the New Zealand Municipal and General Workers' Union. It was stated at the meeting that indications were that the Court was not interpreting the legislation in the spirit in which is was brought down by the legislature. As precedents had been established by the two previous Governments, it was felt that the present Government was justified in indicating that its legislative policy should not be rotarded by any Government servants or State departments. The prompt and efficient manner m which the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, had dealt with the trouble in the freezing works was commended by the meeting, the opinion being expressed that the Government would not allow any individual, or group of individuals, to interfere with its policy. It wa-s contended that the action of t* e Minister had inspired renewed e.onfidence in the Government, and in his ability to carry out the policy which had been placed before the electors, and upon whien the Government had been Teturned by an overwhelming majority.
