LANDMARK TO GO
GilTs Buiiding Being Removed Work is now in progress on the wellknown landmark in Russell street, Hastings, near the railway etation, familiarly known ae Gill's Buiiding, which was purchased'about six months ago by Watties l»td., printers, whose premises in Queen street it adjourns. Mr -Wattie has decided to have the structure moved bodily to th£ back oi the large section, of which it now occupies ,about a quarter, the remainder being vacant. The buiiding will be joined to the back of Watties' present premises and used as a store. The town will gain materially in several ways from this move. A valuable buiiding site will be made available facing the railway yards, a notorioue dumpmg-ground behind where it now stands has already been cleared, and the old buiiding will eventually be hidden from sight. While other parts of the town have gone ahead this block opposite the station still contains many old structures and it.will greatly enhance the approach to the town by rail when these are all replaced by modern buildings
