MR R. P. Houghton
The death occurred after a lengthy illness of a well-known Waikato i'ariner, Mr Roland Paul Hougihton, of Tuhikaramea Mr Houghton was born at Ashley, Oanterbury, wliere his father was one of the early pioneers, and he was associated with his family for many years in iarming pursuits unt'il he eniisted with Ihe Fourth Ooiitittgent, Wellington Rifles for serviee in the Boer War. Returning two years later after demohilisation, he returned to Canterbury, but later took up land in the North Island. In subsequent years he farmed properties in Hawke's Bflw Manawatu ahd tlie Bay of Plenty, and for the Jast ' 25 years had lived in the Waikato. Dur-
ing the Great War he was & *tock buyer for several large firms. He waa a former member of the Mangawara River Board, which was later' arnalgamated with th© Taupiri Draraage Board. For several years he was in business at Hamilton, until 1933, when he 'retired and • took up residence on his farjn at Tuhikaramea. Mr Houghton is survived by his wife and six children, Miss Marjorio Houghton, of Hamilton, ahd Jlessrs Dudley, John, Selwyn, Elic and Athol Houghton, of Tuhikaramea,.
