25 YEARS OF PROGRESS 1912-37

PARAMOUNT PICTURES Probably no individual has played a greater role ?n the growth of the motion picture than Mr. Adolph Zukor. He has, in few words, guided the star parade from Sarah Benhardt to Claudette Colbert during twenty-five years of pioneering at the head of Paramount Pictures. The 25th anniversary of Mr. Zukor's presenc© in the. cinema realm is to be commemorated during tbe week of January 23 to 29. This celebration, which is" world-wide, is itself an indication of the industry's youth, for in that short quarter-century Zukor has witnessed it grow from the flickeriiig nickelodeon of yester year to the sumptuous palaces of the modern talkies. Hastings, too, will pay tribute to Adolph Zukor, founder of Paramount, during the week commencing next Saturday with the screening of Paramount's latest achievement, "The General J)ied at Dawn", featuring Gary Gooper and Madeleine Carrol. Modetn war-torn C/hina is the background for this fast-moving drama of romanee, adventure and intrigue with Gary Cooper in the role of a soldier of fortune in the ranks of the People's Army engaged in a war of annihilation with the War Lords who have preyed upon the country for centuries. Four big sessions are scheduled for Saturday's opening, 2.15, 4.45, 8 and a special late session commencing at 10.25 p.m. PJans are on view at Sutclift'e's Music Store.
