Palmerston Short of Vegetables "Board members might bo interested to know that a few daya ago parsnips were selling in the auction room$ at eightpence each," Mr. A. J. Phillips, managmg-secretary, informed the Palmerston JNforth Hospital Board. In other cases, he said, parsnips were selling at 1/7 a bunch, and there were three on a bunch Carrots had been up to 1/- a bunch over Christmas. "Cannot the board's farm supply all the vegetables requiredp'' asked a member. Mr. Phillipps explained that considerable quantities of vegetables were grown on the farm, but at present thej-e were no parsnips there ready for use. A continuous supply of All vegetables could not be provided' from tbe farm, particularly as the1 board' had decided a few months ago that the resources of the farm should be conceutrated chiefly on the production of milk. Palmerston Nortli was usually well supplied with vegetables, which came by rail from as lar away as Pukekohe, said Mr. Phillipps. It was to be hoped that th© scarcity^ and the extremelv high pnces, were only temporary.
