FAT SHEEP VALUES

Firm Market at Stortford Lodge SHORN LAMBS TO 24/- & Fat sheep at Stortford Lodge yester day sold well at .last week's advanced prive levels created by the increase in the, freezing sehedule. Prime lambs sold particularly well, improving on last week's rates by I/- a head in some lines. Shorn blaek-faeed prime lambs made to 24/-, with well-woolled heavy sorts xealising to 27/-. Heavy ewes again were sought after, making to 23/10, with the lighter sorts .&lso selling well. The exporters were in active competition in this section. The selling opened somewhat quietly hut quiekly improved as the sale progressed to provide a steady market in the vendors' favour, wi^h some lines, espeeially lambs, selling above their values. Prices were secured as under for selected lines:— Eighteen well-framed earlyshorn heavy prime;qttality wethers realiseJ 27/6. Four heavy prime-quality shorn Down-cross lambs brought 24/-. A small pen of heavy prirae-quajity woolly black-faced lambs brought 127/-. An entry of eight medium to heavy early-shorn wethers, a good butchers' line, realised 26/-. A line of 87 medium black-faced lambs averaging about 31 lbs. nn,ade their value at 23/-. Twenty-two well-framed prime-qual-Ity heavy ewes made 21/-. A pen of rather lighter ewes made 19/7. Qn account of Mr. H. Cheer, Elsthorpe, 12 good prime-quality blackfaced lambs made 25/3. On aceount of Mr, K, Cotterill, HaveKppk North, a pen of rather heavier >\milarly-bred prime lambs brought 26/4. On account of Mr. A. Sinclair, Mahora, 17 extra prime heavy early-shqrii ewes realised 23/10. On account of the same source a. pen of 20 lighter primo-quality ewes made 22/6. An entry of 34 medium-weight primefinished ewes brought 19/3.
