BLUESTONE TROUGH

Sheep Should be Walked Through Regularly MR ELPHICK'S ADVICE A lortnightly walk through the bluestone trough in order to keep flocks free of foot-rot is an essential feature in good farm management according to Mr. E. E. Elphick, Government veterinarian at Hastings. A certain amount of this trouble always existed, and in seasons like the present especially it was essential that a close eye should be kept on sheep. Some farmers were having trouble with their sheep in this respect, but the position was not so bad as experienced tMs time last year. Neglect to attend to the feet of the sheep affected was likely to lead to the development of suppurated feet which may even result in bone infeetion. Even where there is not the slightest evidence of foot trouble, Mr. Elphick emphasises that it is a good plan to put the sheep regularly through the bluestone trough, as it has a definite tendency towards keeping the pad of the sheep 's foot hardened. Safeguarding the flocks by this means was invaluable for keeping them in good order.
