AUCKLAND, Jan. 18. "It is a deplorable state qf affairs for a young person in a semi-drunken couclit- 011 to be driving a car," said Mr, Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in admittmg to tliree years' probation, Raymond Francis Clark Davis, aged 17, a boxmaker, of Hamilton, for being in a state of intoxication when in charge of a car at Point Chevalier on Saturday afternoon. In reply to the magistrate the police said that the accused had declined to state wliere he liad obtained the liqucr. "1 think it should be a matter for investigation by the police where he obtained the liquor," added Mr. Wilson. "Licensees have no right to serve one so young. He has no money and 1 will not send him to gaol. I will admit him to probation." Davis' s driving iicence was suspen^led and he was disqualified from holding another for three years.' He was also ordered to abstain from liquor and not to enter licensed premises during probatiou.
