DARGAVILLE, Jan. 20. The death of a married Maori womau, Minnie James, aged 40, of Tangowahine, while. on thc way to hospital in an ambulance following the birth of a baby several days previously was the subject of an inquiry by the Dis-. ;rict Goroner, Mr. J. A. McLean. Kipeka Hita, mother of the deeeased, said she attended when her . daughter gave birth to a female child on January 5. She had carried out obstetrical work for her daughter on four occasions and 3 aad had no trouble. Her daughter did aot complain about feeling bad until lanuary 15, when she said she had pains in her stomach. The district nurse was called and the ambulance was summoned, but before they had arrived at Tangowahine on the way to the Northern Wairoa Hospital the patient was dead. Dr. H. G. Eix said that in his opinion death was due to puerperal sepsis followed by secondary haemorrbage and pulmonary embolism. The coroner xeturned a verdict accordingly.
