AUCKLAND, Jan. 18. Threats to take action against certain employees who had not observed the conditions of tbe stayin campaign at tbe Westfield and Southdown freezing works created considerable nnrest at both works to-day. ' At the Westfield works the trouble was overeome more speedily, and after the resumption of normal activities in ail departments in the morning there was no interruption. At Southdown a deflnite understanding was not reached until after 5 p.m, through the intervention of the Hon. F. E. Lark, M.L.C. A meeting was held at Southdown and work was not commeneed until about half an hour after the usual time. Representatives of the men informed the management that the men refused to work alongside those who were held to be at fault. The management said the men were satisfactory workmen and advised the representatives that they did not intend to take any action. Mr Lark advised the men to take no action that would hold up work, and this was agreed to eventually.
