TRAIN ACCOMMODATION
More Needed (or Travellers to Hastings The need for sufficient accomodation to meet the requirements of travellers on the Saturday morning train to Hastings from the south was mentioned in correspondence considered by the Hastings Chamber of Commerce last night. A letter was reeeived from the Hastings Town Qerk, Mr. Noel C. Harding, enclosing a copy of a letter forwarded by the Mayor, Mr, G. A Maddison, to the Hastings stationmaster. The Mayor's letter it was explained, was consequent to nim receiving a letter from Mrs. N. E. Wilson, president of the Women' s Christian Temperance Union, pointing out that insufficient accomodation was provided on the Saturday morning train, and that in consequeno many Maoris travelling from Waipukurau and intermediate stations to Hastings had to stand on the platforms of the carriages, "I have a recollection of seeing Mfioris on the platforms of this train," commented the chairman, Mr. H. W. O. Baird. "We should back up the Mayor in this matter, but I would rather have had the application for our support from the Women's Christian Temperance Union." Mr. P. E. Loach proposed that the matter be referred to the Transport Committee of the Chamberj with power to act, and this course was eventually agreed to.
